SUBMISSIONS DEADLINE FOR ISSUE 2 - SEPTEMBER 21, 2009
Welcome to the first issue of
The Pathfinder: A Journal of Peace and Conflict Studies
at
The Monterey Institute of International Studies!
The Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS) recognizes that the changing dynamics of contemporary conflicts requires expertise in international policy in addition to specialized skills in conflict resolution, negotiation and mediation. The Institute provides graduate courses in international organization, non-state actors, regimes, cross-cultural communication, mediation, negotiation, policy-making, diplomacy, conflict analysis and peacebuilding. Students are encouraged to develop professional skills through internships, and experiential learning at local, national and international organizations in the public, private and non-profit sectors.
In order to give a voice to student perspectives and experiences and to contribute to scholarship in the field, The Pathfinder: A Journal of Peace and Conflict Studies, an annual peer-reviewed journal, publishes research and featured articles that explore the causes and dynamics of conflict and violence with the aim of discovering innovative paths to peace. The Pathfinder is named after the pathfinders of South Africa's Cape Buffaloes who lead their herds through the wilderness in search of food, safety and shelter.
